Full of the day’s expansive glowing sunset illumination, this large canvas captures the efforts of several schoonermen bringing in the day’s catch, loaded aboard trailing gig boats and covered in ice and straw. The return to port for these American fishermen would be eagerly awaited, but moments such as the one Hallett has so artistically caught were part of the working men’s reward as well, earning their keep and fortunes working the seas.
