Flintlock Box-Lock Pocket Pistol by Davidson of Newcastle
.54-Bore
Sold

  Circa 1805

The turnoff barrel for this diminutive pocket pistol is engraved with parallel lines of foliage around the muzzle, and highly engraved on both side plates of the box, with the maker’s oval mark and name once. It has an engraved thumb piece safety lock that allowed the hammer to be cocked and drops the folding trigger down to ready the weapon. The hardwood stock is checkered carved and rounded with a smooth butt, and has an escutcheon of silver with the owner’s engraved initials “WH”.

The flintlock clasp on the hammer and the powder base has a locking screw device to secure the load when stashed. This gun would have been a man’s “ace in the hole” against an adversary, and the Birmingham proof marks on its barrel underside shows it was kept in good working order.

Pistol Measures 5¾ Inches Overall with a 2⅛ Inch Barrel.
